I'm passionate about the Spanish language.
It all started when, at 18, some American friends asked me why certain things are said a certain way in Spanish. Obviously, I knew how to speak Spanish; I'm Mexican. However, I had no idea what the answers to those questions were.
Inside me, a fire ignited and prompted me to immerse myself in self-directed learning. I began studying Spanish rules, with a stack of grammar, spelling, syntax, and writing books on my bedside table.
My sisters joked that my hobby was reading 'horror' books.
This same fire drove me to start writing a blog, conducting workshops, and creating content for parents, all while devoting 24 hours a day to raising and educating three young children without schooling.
I found immense satisfaction in explaining profound concepts to moms and dads in such a clear manner that it helped them see their roles as parents from a different perspective.
During that time, I realized that most of the valuable content that inspired me was only available in English, making it impossible to share with my Hispanic brothers and sisters. That frustration and strong desire to share with them led me to translate articles and books on my own.
That exercise helped me strengthen my skills to read between the lines and understand what the authors intended to say, and above all, to find the best words in Spanish – clear and culturally relevant – to give voice to the authors.
Since 2013, I have worked with various organizations translating educational materials, curricula, books, blog articles... thousands and thousands of words that transcend the language barrier to reach the entire Hispanic community.
Do you have a project that you want to give voice to in order to reach the Hispanic community? Or do you want to improve your understanding of Spanish grammar to connect with new people?
